The album closer. This piece marked a change in our music writing process. It was the first song completely conceived after both Hughes and I had moved to New York City, and the first time our Sampler (the SP-303 at the time) was used as a key part in the songwriting process.

This is probably the strangest song on the album. It also happens to be the oldest. The main structure (everything but the scratching) was all put together way back when we still lived in Hattiesburg. It was one of the last two things I worked on there; the second being “When Will Then Be Now?”. It's made up of snippets from the Sonic Youth song “Shadow of a Doubt” off EVOL. Then some very subtle use of a piece from Mission of Burma's “Trem Two” off VS. And by subtle I mean even now I can't remember specifically what was sampled and where it was placed, but I do remember using that record for something.

This song started out as kind of a joke to play between other songs in our live set. It was originally just the drums and bass, with vocal scratches. We enjoyed playing it so much at practice that we eventually decided to make it into a whole song in itself. It's all about the life cycle: Sex, Birth, Death; you know the finer things in life.

His first job out of college (MSU) was keeping the books for a large New York department store. Early in his twenties, he began investing extra money in several building projects and eventually moved on to working in real estate exclusively. He acquired all the usual amounts of money, in all the usual ways, in the usual amount of time. Our particular glance into his life this day finds him doing a little soul searching.
